This pair of menuki belongs to the early Ko-Kinkō tradition and features an elegantly crafted motif of shells entwined with flowing seaweed. Made of shakudō with a deep, lustrous black patina, the pieces combine organic movement with refined metal artistry. Each menuki presents a softly sculpted marine snail framed by dynamically curling seaweed tendrils, with the raised sections highlighted in gold takazōgan inlay.

Characteristic of Ko-Kinkō workmanship, the modeling is smooth and naturalistic, giving the impression of forms shaped by water. Fine ridges on the shells and small dotted details enhance the sense of texture and life.

The menuki embody a serene maritime aesthetic and represent excellent craftsmanship from the early traditions of the Kinkō metalworkers. They serve as both a collectible example of classical sword-fitting art and a noteworthy specimen of traditional Japanese metalwork.
