This signed tsuba by 16. Master Hojo Mitsuakira (十六代方乗光晃) 1816 – 1856 is executed in a refined copper alloy, most plausibly suaka, and exemplifies the hight level of Edo-period soft-metal workmanship. The plate is of rounded rectangular form with a rich, warm patina, subtly variegated through age and handling. The surface is decorated with wonderful kebori carving, depicting delicate floral motifs and grasses arranged asymmetrically, with a small insect rendered in light, confident strokes—details that demonstrate the artist’s mastery of line, depth, and restraint. The signature is neatly cut beside the nakago-ana, consistent in placement and style with authenticated works of the Goto lineage.

Since there is no certificate by NBTHK there is no guarantee on the signature's authenticity.

Although scratches and surface wear are visible, these are consistent with age and use and do not detract from the overall integrity of the piece. On the contrary, they reinforce its authenticity, allowing the tsuba to convey both the technical sophistication and the quiet elegance characteristic of Hojo Mitsuakiras work.
