This work depicts a cloud and dragon with a bright gold inlay.
A cloud and dragon design is along the border between the Kiribane base and the Hitsuana. In contrast to the intentionally sparse gold nunome zogan, this piece has dense nunome zogan.
The reverse side is sprinkled with characters evoking the appearance of a dragon.
It was probably made by a school known as Edo Higo or Yotsuya Higo at the end of the Edo period, led by Kumagai Yoshiyuki, a craftsman in the Hosokawa family. It is a work that is well suited to the long-handled kobusho (military office) arrangements that were popular at the end of the Edo period.
