- Tsuba - Heianjo Zogan Tsuba — Early Kyoto

A finely constructed Heianjo-zōgan tsuba in iron, featuring openwork (sukashi) and extensive brass-wire inlay (shinchū zōgan). The decoration consists of flowing karakusa scrolls and stylized leaf forms, enhanced by fine engraving (kebori) and arranged in a balanced composition around the central seppa-dai.

The combination of dark iron, warm brass inlay and openwork is characteristic of the Heianjo tradition of Kyoto, an important center of refined sword-fitting production. The scrolling vegetal motif reflects a decorative vocabulary widely used in Japanese art, valued for its elegant rhythm and association with continuity and vitality.

The tsuba is accompanied by its wooden presentation box and textile cushion. The box inscription identifies the work as Heianjo-zōgan with brass-wire inlay, engraving and openwork.
