This elegant Edo-period tsuka exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility characteristic of high-grade sword fittings of the era. Measuring 18 cm in overall length and weighing 82.9 g, it presents a harmonious combination of fine materials, sophisticated metalwork, and traditional handle construction.

The fuchi and kashira are crafted in darkened iron and adorned with delicately engraved and gilt botanical motifs, rendered with confident linework and a tasteful sense of asymmetry. The gilding remains vibrant, with minimal loss, highlighting the high quality of the original workshop. The samegawa (ray skin) is clean and beautifully textured, showing excellent preservation and an attractive natural coloration.

Set beneath the braid are finely made menuki, displaying crisp detail and warm gold tones that contrast elegantly with the dark tsukamaki. The tsukamaki (braid) itself—executed in black silk—is notably worn and partially frayed, reflecting age and use. While no longer intact enough for functional mounting, it does not compromise the structural integrity of the tsuka and can be replaced without difficulty.

All other components remain in very good condition, making this an ideal candidate for professional restoration. A careful rewrapping would return the piece to full visual harmony and make it suitable for either museum display or high-level private collection presentation.
