- Tsuba – Akasaka School, with Owari and Ko-Shoami influence

Large iron openwork tsuba of slightly oval form, executed in a bold and symmetrical sukashi design. The composition is structured around a strong central reserve framing the nakago-ana, with broad lateral elements and vertically aligned lozenge-shaped openings above and below. The thick, rounded mimi, dense iron quality, and powerful silhouette reflect Owari influence, while the more decorative curvature of the side motifs suggests a Ko-Shoami element.

Motive are Karigane, Myoga and structural elements, maybe related to the samurai family that purchased this piece.

The dark patinated iron surface and substantial thickness give the guard a distinctly sculptural and commanding presence. A striking example of Akasaka workmanship that successfully balances architectural strength with ornamental grace.
